What is Montessori?

Montessori is an educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that uses a child-centered, hands-on approach to learning. It emphasizes self-paced learning, independence, and hands-on exploration, allowing children to choose their own activities within a carefully prepared environment. Teachers act as guides, observing and providing support rather than lecturing.

At Sandhill Montessori we understand that education doesn’t just happen in the classroom but starts in the home. Our hybrid homeschool cooperative program, where students can attend as little as one half day a week or come full day for all four days of class, allows us to create a harmonious environment between home and classroom. We have found this to be a modern way to encourage educational growth, wherever the student finds themselves, that aligns perfectly with Dr. Montessori’s Philosophy and Principals.
